Insurance Specialization

Support others through life’s uncertainties

Insurance is about protecting people when it matters most. At Marian, you’ll learn how to make that protection possible.

Why you should choose an insurance specialization

In an age of frequent climate events, cyber threats, regulatory changes, natural disasters — insurance professionals are needed now more than ever. Marian’s specialization prepares you to understand these risks and contribute to protecting people, businesses, and communities.

  • Marian’s program goes beyond basic policy work. You’ll study insurance in areas like cyber risk, liability, aviation, pollution, weather, and more — fields that are growing rapidly and seeing a lot of demand.
  • Alongside insurance-specific subjects (risk and insurance, underwriting, etc.), you’ll build widely valued skills: problem-solving, communication, collaboration, ethical decision-making. These skills are useful in any business but especially relevant in insurance.
  • Every business student at Marian does at least one internship, and with the insurance specialization you can choose to do a second one focused in the insurance field. This hands-on experience helps to solidify learning and make connections in the industry.

What you’ll learn

As a School of Business student, you’ll explore and study top trends in the insurance industry, like continuing mergers and acquisitions, the growth of cyber insurance, the rise of new micro-industries like marijuana cultivation, and escalating rates of reinsurance.

You’ll learn about important, relevant business continuity, financial services, risk management, and insurance-based tools and trends as well as best practices for sales and profitability. You’ll also develop strong communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and other essential skills.

Marian University’s 12-credit specialization in insurance is a great complement for management, finance, and marketing majors. You’ll complete courses like:
