University Scholarships, Grants, and Financial Aid
- Financial aid: You may be able to use state and federal financial aid to help cover study abroad costs. Once you've selected your program and understand the costs, consult with our Office of Financial Aid.
- Financial Aid Policy Transfer Policy: Consult the following chart to see if your financial aid will transfer with you abroad. This will vary based on the type of study abroad program you choose and the type of aid you are trying to transfer.
Program | Term | Federal/State Aid | Marian University Aid | Who do you pay? | Notes |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Pell Grant, FSEOG, Direct subsidized loans, Direct unsubsidized loans, Direct PLUS loans, Direct Consolidation Loans, Federal TEACH Grant | All scholarships not listed under the Federal/State Aid category | ||||

Partner Program(Harlaxton College, Salzburg College, Florence University of the Arts) | Semester | Yes | No | Marian | Although Marian's aid does not transfer, you will not pay more than the cost of the program, which is less than MU tuition. |
Summer | Yes** | No | |||
Provider Program | Semester | Yes | No | Provider | Many providers offer scholarships for students studying in their programs. We strongly encourage students to apply for these scholarships as many Marian students have been successful in the past. Ask your provider or the Study Abroad Office for more details. |
Summer | Yes** | No | |||
MU Faculty-Led Program | Semester | Yes | Some*** | Marian | These are short-term programs. If they occur in the semester, they would be tied to a semester-long course and take place over a university break. |
Summer | Yes** | No |
**It is generally not in your best interest to use federal/state aid in the summer, as it may take away from the amount that you have for the following academic year. If you would like to use federal or state aid over the summer, speak with financial aid to ensure that you will still have enough to cover your fees for the following year.
***You may be able to use Marian aid to cover the tuition costs of the program if the program occurs during the Spring or Fall semesters, but the additional program fee would not be covered by Marian aid.
