Biography

Shana loves of technology, curricular design, and creating engaging teaching strategies. She is the “techie professor”.

Shana critical care experiences included patients with cardiothoracic, left ventricular assistive devices (LVAD), and medically fragile in the school setting.

She has have twelve years of experience catering to the complex needs of learners in higher education. 
For the last seven years, she have focused on preparing the next generation of undergraduate nursing students with agape-based teaching philosophy.

She have taught a cadre of traditional, hybrid, and online nursing courses, from health assessment to nursing informatics.  Her extensive knowledge of Learning Management Systems such as Canvas, Blackboard, Sakai, and Shadow Health, helps keep lectures and online courses engaging and relevant.

Research Interests

As a Jonas Nurse Leader Scholar and Ph.D. student at Indiana University School of Nursing, Shana investigate factors that influence African American nursing student retention, nursing workforce diversity, and student engagement. She plans to study how students perceive faculty support and the moderators that influence student engagement and attrition. Her passion for advocating for diverse and at-risk populations, dedication to servant leadership, and teaching philosophy is congruent with the mission, vision, and values of Marian University.
