Campus Life

The beautiful landscape of the Marian University campus will have no small effect on you.  Sure, it’s pretty, but it doesn’t take students long to realize the greater value in its offerings, location, and ambience. Place does matter. And Marian University offers a peaceful and inspiring setting that also boasts a vibrant campus life and a convenient proximity to thriving downtown Indianapolis.

Sure there are the typical features—like a fountain, green space for Frisbee Friday’s, and, yes, a Starbucks—but there are also other cool things—like more than one historic mansion, a 55-acre EcoLab, three very pretty chapels, and some awesome technology-charged business collaboration suites.

It’s a peaceful campus, but don’t be startled when the president cruises up next to you on a bike and stops to chat. And you will quickly learn that a Pop-Up Party is always a pleasant surprise. We do like to celebrate here, and it seems like there is always something to celebrate at Marian University—in particular, the Leighton School of Nursing and the Michael A. Evans Center for Health Sciences. So come find out what we're made of and thrive with us.

Get Involved

Students in the Leighton School of Nursing have countless opportunities to get involved in a variety of events and organizations. By participating in one of our many student clubs, volunteering for a variety of events around the university, city, and state, or by participating in a number of recreational activities, students will have the opportunity to grow academically, spiritually, socially, and professionally.

In addition to over 40 student organizations that give students opportunities to serve the university, local, and state communities, medical students often choose to work together to create community outreach events, blood drives, guest lectures, networking and shadowing events, and much more. Consider taking advantage of the opportunities to attend national medical conferences and support students’ professional interests.

If you are interested in starting your own organization or to learn more about existing opportunities please contact Kaylee Hofmeister, student affairs specialist, at khofmeister@marian.edu

Get Away

Indy has a small town feel, but boasts big-city amenities. Host of Super Bowl XLIV and the legendary Indianapolis 500, Indianapolis is home to the Indianapolis Colts, Indiana Pacers, Indianapolis Indians, and Indiana Fever. The city is a premier sports venue that also offers dozens of arts, cultural, and recreational experiences from the world's largest Children's Museum to the Indianapolis Museum of Art, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Indianapolis Repertory Theatre, one of the country's largest city parks, and four other urban universities. The city provides students with a wide range of activities to enrich their lives, as well as proximity to some of the best medical facilities in the nation.

Indiana is also listed by the Wall Street Journal as a leading United States life sciences hub, and is home to more than 825 medical device companies, drug manufacturers, and research labs. Large international names, such as Eli Lilly and Company, United Health, and Wellpoint, Inc., are leaders of this growing industry.

Even though Indianapolis has a variety of opportunities, both professionally and socially, the cost of living is well below the national average. According to the 2010 ACCRA Cost of Living Index, Indianapolis' cost of living is 11.2 percent lower than the national average.
