Mentor Service Program

After a year of coursework, leadership candidates will participate in a two-year mentor program.

  • Mentors provide mentees with academic and emotional support with a particular emphasis on:
  • Transformational Leadership and 21st Century Skill Sets and Capacities;
  • The Leadership Effectiveness Rubric (based on IDOE Building Leader Standards);
  • John P.  Kotter’s  work on transforming organizations and the eight-stage process for leading change.

Mentors observe, coach, and engage in critical conversations with leadership candidates in order to help them model personal excellence, integrity, grit, courage, and inclusive respect. The focus of these critical conversations is to highlight the leadership candidate’s responsibility for student achievement and staff performance and to sustain a sense of urgency for students and staff to be able to not only survive but also competitively thrive in the 21st century.
