Bio
Robyn K. Fuchs, Ph.D., is a professor of physiology and chair of the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology at Marian University’s Wood College of Osteopathic Medicine. She teaches physiology in the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Program and is passionate about helping students connect classroom learning with real-world clinical application. In her courses, she uses case-based learning, interactive activities, and simulations to help students build a strong foundation in physiology while preparing for board exams and clinical practice.
Dr. Fuchs directs the Clinical Musculoskeletal Health Lab within the WCOM, which explores how exercise, aging, menopause, and medications influence bone and muscle health across the lifespan. Her team uses advanced imaging methods, such as DXA and CT-based 3D modeling, to study bone strength and fracture risk. Current projects include investigating bone health in athletes, understanding how early menopause affects musculoskeletal health, and testing exercise and pharmaceutical strategies to reduce injury risk. Students play an active role in this research by helping to collect data, present findings at conferences, and contribute to publications.
She has published more than 75 peer-reviewed scientific papers, and her work is widely cited in the fields of physiology and musculoskeletal health. At Marian University, she is the faculty advisor for Beyond the White Coat, a student-run medical journal that highlights the voices, experiences, and research of medical students. Through this work, she mentors students in writing, editing, and scholarly publishing skills that strengthen their professional development and future residency applications.
Dr. Fuchs is committed to creating a collaborative, supportive environment where students grow not only as scholars but also as compassionate and engaged future physicians and leaders.
Teaching Philosophy
Dr. Fuchs brings over a decade of experience teaching physiology, pharmacology, and pathophysiology to medical, graduate, and undergraduate students. She emphasizes active learning, case-based problem solving, and simulation labs to help students connect science to clinical practice.
Her teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that students learn best in a supportive, collaborative environment where they are encouraged to ask questions, think critically, and apply knowledge in meaningful ways. She is especially committed to mentoring students in research, focusing on academic growth and professional development as future physicians and scientists. She is the recipient of the MU-WCOM Teaching Excellence Award in 2025 and 2024.
