Bio 

Felicia Stewart, DNP, has over 30 years of nursing experience and half of that has been as a board-certified family nurse practitioner. She has taught in graduate nursing education since completing her doctoral degree in 2012. As the director of the DNP program's family nurse practitioner track, she is engaged in student recruitment and retention efforts, curriculum revision and development, and ensuring high-quality instruction. She continues to maintain clinical practice experience part-time as a family nurse practitioner for ProactiveMD.  

Prior to coming to Marian University in January 2023, Dr. Stewart was the founding graduate nursing and FNP program director at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College in west central Indiana. She is an on-site evaluator for the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) 

Courses Taught 

Dr. Stewart teaches primarily in family nurse practitioner clinical courses and facilitates the board preparation process. That said, she has taught pharmacology, health assessment, differentials, FNP role, and health care policy courses as well. She also chairs/co-chairs FNP student DNP projects. 

Research Interests 

Dr. Stewart has an interest in the intersection of spiritual and physical health. Her scholarly efforts have focused on a variety of topics in primary care, service learning, intercultural competency, diversity, inclusion, and stress management/mindfulness strategies.  

She was a member of the Nursing Scope and Standards (fourth edition) workgroup in collaboration with the American Nurses Association published in 2021. She was a member of the Faith Community Nursing Scope and Standards (3rd edition) workgroup through Health Ministries Association and the American Nurses Association published in 2017. Her numerous state, regional, and national presentations have been focused on clinical practice topics as well as innovative teaching and learning strategies. 

Active leader and contributor on numerous department and university committees at Marian University and previous institutions.

Dr. Stewart is the past director of Practice and Education for Health Ministries Association. Past leadership positions at the state level for United Methodist Women of Indiana, include vice president, member of the Committee on Nominations, and communications coordinator. She is currently serving a four-year term as the Indiana representative to the Program Advisory Group of the United Women in Faith national organization. 

Community and Public Engagement 

Member of the Lions Club in Indiana since 2012. 
Leader and participant on numerous eyeglass mission trips to Mexico and medical missions in El Salvador.

In her free time, Dr. Stewart enjoys travel (for pleasure or mission), reading, theatre, music, and relaxing with her rescued goldendoodle companion, LeAnn.
