Bio
David L. Dickey is a lecturer in theology at Marian University for the Marian University Online Program but has taught both Intro to Theology and Moral Issues several times, both online and in person at the Indianapolis campus. He holds degrees with honors in biblical studies/leadership and ministry (BS), divinity (MDiv), and theology (MTS) from Cincinnati Christian University and Christian Theological Seminary, respectively and is also a certified Secondary classroom teacher.
His master's thesis, "Gates Locked from the Inside," is a critique of the so-called Free Will Theodicy of Hell found in the works of C.S. Lewis, and his professional interests continue to center around the intersection of eschatology and ethics, as well as the role of mythic storytelling in forming human societies and morality. Since childhood, he has loved most things horror, science fiction, and comic book related and continues to be fascinated by the way the mediums of popular culture wrestle with similar issues and ask similar questions as theology. His professional publications continue to revolve around these topics.
Dickey also regularly leads worship and delivers sermons as pulpit supply in the Disciples of Christ churches he is a part of and previously taught philosophy and ethics at Brown Mackie College. His overall love for education and the impact teaching can have as a primary form of ministry, even in secular contexts, has lead him to a full-time career as a classroom teacher in public schools. He currently serves at Ben Davis High School's Ninth Grade Center in Indianapolis, teaching business. Dickey is a lifelong resident of the west side of Indianapolis, Indiana, where he resides with his wife, Abigail, and their five children.
