Biography
I am the Anthony J. Kriech Endowed Professor of Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry and Physical Sciences at Marian University, where I have been a member of the faculty for over 20 years. A proud Marian alumnus, I earned Bachelor of Science degrees in both Chemistry and Biology before completing a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry at Purdue University.
Trained as a mechanistic organic chemist, my scholarly work has long focused on the development of green chemistry curricula and the implementation of green chemistry experiments and practices. I oversee the organic chemistry curriculum and teach Organic Chemistry I and II along with their corresponding laboratory courses.
I have broad expertise in the science of sustainability, the philosophy and ethics of sustainability practices, and in the causes and conditions that support human flourishing. In my general education course, Science, the Environment, and Society, I am presently focused on equipping students with the intellectual tools necessary to address today’s sustainability challenges. We focus on scientific literacy and thoughtful decision-making, grounded in the Franciscan values.
Outside the classroom, I enjoy spending time in nature with my family. We hike in state and national parks and value opportunities to explore the natural world together. I also hold a third-degree black belt in Taekwondo and train at Apex Taekwondo in Fishers.
