COM IT Steward - Job description and application

The College of Osteopathic Medicine Information Technology Fellow will assist course directors, guest lecturers, and COM faculty in the use of technology for instruction. With this support, faculty will be able to receive immediate assistance to keep lectures on track. The primary responsibility of the IT fellow will be to provide hands-on technical support of computers and audio/video equipment in the Evans Center lecture halls, Anatomy lab, OMM lab, seminar rooms, and classrooms. Additionally, IT Fellows may be expected to occasionally support College of Osteopathic Medicine events in the lecture hall or labs outside of regularly scheduled class time.

Two students from each medical school cohort will be selected. You will only support courses and labs within your own cohort.

Selected students will receive comprehensive training on all systems and equipment in the Michael A. Evans Center for Health Sciences. Training will occur during or immediately following orientation.


Applicant must be:

  • enrolled full-time in the DO program and in good standing;
  • able to troubleshoot low level computer problems;
  • able to effectively communicate verbally and in written form;
  • comfortable with technology including Windows, Mac, Microsoft Office PowerPoint, course management systems; and,
  • possess customer service skills.

Undergraduate degrees in computer science, computer technology, engineering, or computer related fields a plus. Related IT work experience a plus.

Compensation and requirements

This position does not pay an hourly wage; however, compensation will include:

  • a 50 percent reduction in the technology fee; and
  • choice of a laptop device selected from a list of approved devices (e.g., 15” Apple MacBook Pro with retina display).

Student must remain in good academic standing. If student is placed on academic probation or withdrawn, the device must be returned and student will be billed for 50% of technology fee.

IT Stewards participating in their second year will receive a 100% reduction in the technology fee in lieu of an additional laptop.

It is up to the individual IT fellows to coordinate and make sure that at least one IT Fellow is present at every lecture or lab session. If more than three lectures or labs are missed for assigned dates, fellow will resign position, be billed for 50% of technology fee, and return equipment (100% of technology fee for second year students).

Application and selection procedure

All Applicants must complete a Tech Fellow Application by July 18, 2016.

A committee consisting of Information Technology staff will review all applications and make interview appointments for selected applicants.

Tech Fellows will be notified and selected by July 29 or until all positions have been filled, whichever is later.
