Ethics Bowl
Marian University has hosted the Central States Regional Ethics Bowl annually since 1999. The event is organized locally by philosophy faculty and staff from the College of Arts and Sciences. In addition to hosting the event, Marian has historically fielded 1-2 teams that compete in the Ethics Bowl. Students who participate in Ethics Bowl enroll in PHL-115 (Ethical Analysis in Practice) and earn 1-2 academic credits. Students work with a faculty coach who mentors them through the process of researching each year’s case studies, constructing arguments in support of the team’s positions, and preparing responses to other points of view. The current faculty coach is Dr. David Denz. If you are a student interested in Ethics Bowl, please contact Dr. Denz at ddenz@marian.edu. For other inquiries about Ethics Bowl, or to volunteer as a judge or moderator, please contact Dr. Graham Renz (Ethics Bowl Coordinator) at grenz@marian.edu.
Sophia Club

Regular events include “Let’s Talk” conversations with invited faculty guests, Theology on Tap, the annual Halloween bonfire and spring cookout, and movie nights. The club also collaborates with other student organizations, most recently with the Drama Club on it’s Spring 2025 production of Twelve Angry Jurors. For more information about the Sophia Club, you may contact its student president, Aidan Smith (asmith558@marian.edu) or the faculty advisor, Dr. Joseph Gamache (jgamache@marian.edu).
