Counseling and Consultation Services (CCS)
After hours: 317-955-6150 (option 2)
You can schedule an appointment by calling 317-955-6150, emailing CCS@marian.edu, or stopping by our office located in Clare Hall and asking to set up the initial 15-minute phone consult. During this 15-minute consultation appointment we will discuss your needs and treatment options.
Students enrolled at Marian University are eligible to receive services at CCS. This free service generally functions on a short-term counseling model. If you need or prefer long-term and/or weekly counseling, we are happy to help you find referrals in the community to meet this long-term need. CCS does not offer long-term, intensive, or specialized treatment generally required for substance abuse, severe eating disorders, or severe emotional difficulties. If you have questions about whether our services are right for you, please contact our office, and we can discuss your options with you.
CCS provides short-term individual and group therapy. Sessions are focused on the presenting problem and the student’s goals for treatment.
Common reasons students seek therapy:
Anxiety
Depression
Relationship Concerns
Coping with Grief and Loss
Sexual Assault and other trauma recovery
Eating and Body Image Concerns
Understanding One’s Sexual/Gender Identity
Alcohol or Substance Use problems
Stress Management/Coping Skills
Adjusting to College
Self-Esteem/Self-Confidence
Career and Life Choices
Group therapy is often the most effective type of counseling if your concerns involve relationships with other people. For this reason, your therapist might recommend group instead of individual therapy. Groups usually involve 4-8 students and are led by CCS staff. The group provides a safe and supportive environment in which you can constructively explore new ways of relating to others, share personal experiences, express fears and concerns, and get support and feedback.
While CCS does not currently have session limits, the average length of individual therapy is between 6-8 sessions with sessions occurring every 2-3 weeks. We work collaboratively with students to determine the appropriate length of treatment for each individual’s needs. CCS aims to be flexible within this short-term model, and we know that each student has unique circumstances. If you know that you are likely to want weekly therapy sessions for the entirety of your time at Marian, we are happy to assist you in finding referrals in the community to meet this long term need.
Due to the high demand for services in our counseling center, we typically cannot offer same day therapy appointments. However, if you are in crisis during business hours, please call our office (317-955-6150) and we will attempt to make someone available as soon as possible. We do offer same day or next day brief consultation appointments with our therapists to determine your needs.
Crisis services are available to currently enrolled students. Examples of crisis situations include: considering suicide, thoughts of hurting another person, recent victim of sexual assault, extremely disorganized or bizarre thinking or perceptions. If you or someone you are concerned about is in crisis and does not need immediate medical help or law enforcement, please use one of the following options:
During business hours: call the CCS front desk at 317-955-6150 and let the staff know you are seeking services for a crisis situation. We will work to make a staff member available as soon as possible to meet your needs.

Yes. All information gathered in counseling, including the fact that a student has sought services at CCS, is held in strict confidence. The privacy of communication between clients and mental health professionals is protected by Indiana state law. No information about students or their treatment is disclosed to others unless the student provides a written request or it falls within the exceptions to confidentiality required by Indiana state law, such as:
CCS receives a court order to release information
Risk of harm to self or others is imminent
Suspected risk of abuse of a child or other vulnerable population (disabled/elderly)
To find an off-campus provider, students can visit Marian’s Thriving Campus Network here [https://marian.thrivingcampus.com/] or reach out to our office at 317-955-6150 or CCS@marian.edu for support with finding a provider
While therapists in our office can support students with ADD/ADHD, we do not provide psychoeducation testing to determine accommodations or disability. For support with academic accommodations and referrals for testing, please contact the Personalized Learning Center at plc@marian.edu or 317-955-6540.
There is no cost for services at CCS. If you are referred to a community provider by CCS, there may be costs associated with services provided by that provider.
Because CCS services are confidential, we are unable to schedule appointments on behalf of other students. You can certainly encourage someone else to come to CCS.
Workshops
Students do not need to be currently receiving services at CCS to attend workshops offered throughout the semester. To attend a workshop, simply arrive at the scheduled location (typically the CCS office in Clare Hall) a few minutes prior to the scheduled start time. If you have questions about a workshop, you can contact the CCS front office, and we will answer them for you.
Individual/Group
To begin receiving individual or group therapy at CCS, first contact our office to schedule your 15-minute phone consultation. During this consult, you and the CCS staff therapist will discuss recommendations for ongoing services, including either or both individual and group therapy and provide next steps for scheduling the recommended services.
At CCS, we operate on a short-term counseling model. This means that we work with you to identify goals for the changes that you want to make and take active steps to work towards those goals. We encourage students to approach counseling ready to work with their therapist, because change takes input from you as well!
