Before your New Student Orientation, you need to complete placement tests. These will help your advisor place you in the appropriate courses where you will be successful.
Marian University Account Setup
Before accessing placement testing and instructions, set up your Marian University login. You should have received two separate emails from MUHUB@marian.edu: one with your username and another with a temporary password.

- Students must complete two subtests within the Nelson-Denny Reading Test:
- Reading Comprehension
- Vocabulary
- All students will be sent a link directly from the Reading Placement publisher (PRO-ED, noreply@proedinc.com) to their Marian University email address. The email will include a test link, username, and password to log in. If you do not receive an email from PRO-ED, please check your Spam folder.
If you are still unable to locate the email, please contact Dr. May Hli Cheng, mcheng@marian.edu, Assistant Director of Academic Engagement, for further instructions
World Language Placement
- All students are required to take one world language course according to their current ability level. Marian University offers French, German, Latin, Spanish, and American Sign Language.
- If you want to continue taking courses in a previously studied world language, you will complete world language placement testing online before your orientation. You must complete the world language course in which you are placed to fulfill the graduation requirement. Additional back credit may be awarded if that course is taken and passed with a C or higher. You can find more information about Back Credit here.
- Students continuing ASL at Marian do not need to take the world language placement.
- If you choose to take a world language at Marian University that you did NOT previously study, you are required to take the introductory 101 courses for that language.
- Results are valid for two years from the test date.

Transfer Students
- Incoming transfer students are required to complete math and reading comprehension placement testing unless they have equivalent transfer coursework that fulfills these requirements.
- World language placement testing is not required for transfer students. However, you are encouraged to talk with your advisor about the world language placement exam if you have previous coursework in French, German, Latin, or Spanish, as you must still complete the world language general education requirement.
