Marian's Research Spaces

Get inspired. Get Involved!

At Marian University, we believe in nurturing your passion for discovery through individualized mentorship. Our dedicated faculty will guide you through the many decisions and changes that accompany your medical school journey. Our unique, open-concept labs foster collaboration and allow you to explore a wide range of research topics until you find the one for you, working directly with principal investigators to conduct real-world research. And you'll never feel lost; we'll match you with laboratories based on your interests and help you uncover and pursue your interests, whatever they may be.

Campus Labs

MU science laboratories are located in either Marian Hall or the Michael A. Evans Center for Health Sciences. Marian Hall boasts a 2,540-square-foot open-concept lab with dedicated spaces for Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS), tissue culture, microscopy, and student workspace. Faculty can utilize four instructional labs in Marian Hall (1,833 ft2 total) during non-instructional times, including for summer research.

The Evans Center's 1,600-square-foot lab, which opened in December 2018, is equipped for modern cell and molecular biology including incubators, biosafety cabinets, specimen storage, etc., and is a BSL-1 facility.

Additionally, investigators have access to leased lab space 1.5 miles from campus at the Indiana Biosciences Research Institute (IBRI), where MU faculty-led teams have designated bench space. This collaboration with IBRI, a non-profit targeting cardio-metabolic diseases, diabetes, and poor nutrition, grants MU-COM faculty and students access to extensive resources.

MU-COM affiliates can use shared IBRI facilities, such as the Microscope Facility, Human and Animal Cell Culture Facilities, Pluripotent Stem Cell Lab, and the General Equipment Core with tools like histology equipment and Realtime PCR machines.

Being close to MU and the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) campuses enhances interactions and offers access to clinical samples via IU Health and Pathology. MU and IUSM faculty support is readily available. IBRI is also an active member of the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute.
