Instructional Experience

John NagelhoutDr. Nagelhout has been a singular name in nurse anesthesia leadership and education in the U.S. for well over two decades.  His experience in instruction pertinent to NSG 603/609 is extensive and spans from 1979 through the present.  This includes experience as: an adjunct professor at the University of Michigan, an assistant professor at University of Detroit-Mercy, an instructor and assistant professor in the College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions at Wayne State University, a professor and current program director of nurse anesthesia at Kaiser Permanente/California State Fullerton University, as well as, a history of writing and procuring grants in research regarding anesthetic pharmacology.  He has long taught pharmacology content in nurse anesthesia programs, and has been for many years utilized as a content expert for item writing and an instructor in nurse anesthesia pharmacology courses at several programs across the nation.

Professional Experience

Dr. Nagelhout is an experienced nurse anesthetist, a national leader within nurse anesthesia education and is amply represented in presentation and publication, particularly on the subject of the pharmacology of anesthesia.  This includes co-authorship and editing responsibilities in a foundational text for nurse anesthesia educational programs, entitled simply "Nurse Anesthesia".  He is a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing, and has also served in leadership positions within the national professional organization for nurse anesthesia.  One final note: Dr. Nagelhout has had the distinction of serving on the National Advisory Council on Nurse Education and Practice in the Department of Health and Human Resources in Washington, D.C. for five years.
