Jackie RowlesJackie Rowles is the Nurse Anesthesia Program Director and an Associate Professor in the Leighton School of Nursing, as well as, a Clinical Instructor for the College of Osteopathic Medicine.  Dr. Rowles earned a bachelor's degree in nursing from Ball State University, a master's degree in business administration from the University of Memphis, a certificate in nurse anesthesia from the Truman Medical Center School of Nurse Anesthesia coupled with a Master of Arts degree in Biology from the University of Missouri at Kansas City.  Further, she earned a post-masters certificate as an Adult Nurse Practitioner from Ball State University and a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Barry University.

Dr. Rowles is a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) and Board Certified Adult Nurse Practitioner (ANP-BC) with nationally and internationally recognized leadership and clinical expertise in the specialty of pain management, including medication management, diagnostic and therapeutic injections, and multi-modal approaches in the treatment of pain. Dr. Rowles was instrumental in the development of specialty pain education and certification of nurse anesthetists, including the first CRNA interventional pain management cadaver course, AANA Advanced Pain Management Seminars, and a University-based post master's certificate in Advanced Pain Management that, in 2014, became the first fellowship program for nurse anesthetists.  Dr.  Rowles served as an item writer for the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetist's Non-Surgical Pain Management certification examination. A highlight of her career was serving on the 2013-2014 National Institute of Health/Health and Human Services (NIH/HHS) Interagency National Pain Strategy team's Prevention and Care workgroup. Dr. Rowles is a sought after speaker for local, state, national and international continuing education meetings, particularly in the pain management and opioid use/abuse/crisis arenas. She was a lecturer for the American Association of Colleges of Nursing's 2016 Opioid Education webinar series. Dr. Rowles is an adjunct faculty member for the Texas Christian University School of Nurse Anesthesia Fellowship in Advanced Pain Management.

Leadership and Service

Currently serving in her third term as President of the International Federation of Nurse Anesthetists (IFNA), Dr. Rowles is a past president of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA), the Indiana Association of Nurse Anesthetists, served on the American Academy of Pain Management's (AAPM) Board of Directors for eight years with four years as Treasurer, and was a Nursing Organizations Alliance (NOA) Board Member for three years serving one year as Treasurer.  Dr. Rowles is a member of the World Health Organization's Global Initiative for Essential and Emergency Surgical Care (WHO GIEESC), and was recently elected to the Board of Directors of the G4 Alliance (a global organization for access to Surgical, Obstetrics, Trauma, and Anesthesia Care).  Dr. Rowles is the chair of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists Task Force on Organizational Culture Assessment and serves as a member of the Ball State University College of Health Advisory Board. She is a Diplomat in the American Academy of Pain Management (DAAPM) and was honored to have been selected a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN) in 2013.  Serving the local community, Dr. Rowles enjoys volunteering as a nurse practitioner at Trinity Free Clinic.
