Core Courses
You will complete a 27-credit common core of experiential business education consisting of these nine-credit classes team-taught by Business School faculty.
BUS 109: Business Plan Competition
This first-year experience will provide you with a hands-on introduction to business in which you’ll draw upon specific theories, tools, methods, and knowledge. Working as part of a team, you’ll develop a business concept, document your business plan including needed start-up funds, and pitch your idea to local executives. If selected for funding, your team will run your own campus business, receiving both course credit and the profits. You’ll also get experience planning and managing diverse business operations.
BUS 309: Comprehensive Analysis of Business
The final core course includes a comprehensive analysis of merger and acquisition opportunities for a global corporation. You will draw from your knowledge of finance, business law, and strategic planning concepts, theories and tools. You’ll gain awareness and understanding about financial scenarios, developing an ability to assess and solve problems that require a strategic approach for interacting with and among competing organizations. Your work will culminate in a strategic plan that identifies acquisition targets and a presentation to your client. Recent partners include Cummins, Eli Lilly, Elanco, and Danaher Corporation.
