Marian University Named College of Distinction as a Graduate University

by Glendal Jones | Feb 17, 2022

Place another feather in Marian University’s academic hat. This year Marian has been named a 2021-22 College of Distinction recipient as a doctoral/professional university. Schools awarded the badge by Colleges of Distinction have shown they are well equipped to help their students thrive in the graduate studies arena.

Alan J. Silva, Ph. D., executive vice president and provost says this is a high honor distinction. “The reclassification of Marian University as a doctoral/professional university recognizes Marian’s great success in adding high quality graduate programs and places us into a new category of high-profile peer institutions who value excellent teaching, research, and scholarship.”

Now in its 21st year, Colleges of Distinction is committed to honoring schools throughout the United States for true excellence in higher education. The member schools within the Colleges of Distinction consortium distinguish themselves through their dedicated focus on the undergraduate experience. In order to earn this prestigious distinction, Marian went through Colleges of Distinction’s evaluation process and again excelled at each point. Last year, Marian was awarded with the Career Development recognition for its career services center, The Exchange.

“We know Marian University is committed to delivering top-notch graduate programs that provide rich academic, clinical, and research experiences, Silva added. “But we don't stop there. Our holistic approach expands your heart and awakens your spirit by embracing diverse cultural perspectives, and providing service-learning opportunities in addition to our interdisciplinary, interprofessional instruction.”

That’s exactly why the Colleges of Distinction reviewers awarded Marian University’s graduate programs as top notch.  Reviewers also added that Marian has shown inventiveness in connecting with students throughout their academic careers and beyond. They also stated students and graduates are fully supported by Marian’s outstanding career center.
