"Connectivity" by Crystal Vicars: an art exhibit coming to Marian University

by News Release | Oct 07, 2019

ForestIndianapolis – Connectivity is an art exhibit in collaboration with Marian University’s First Year Seminar Courses, featuring artwork by artwork by Crystal Vicars. Connectivity will be on display in the Marian University Art Gallery located in the Michael A. Evans Center for Health Sciences from October 16-November 9, 2019.  An artists’ presentation and reception of the exhibit will be held on October 24, from 4-6 p.m. The exhibit and reception are generously funded by the Talbot Street Art Fair and are free and open to the public.

For Crystal, painting is a spiritual event.  The space between artist and canvas is natural, supernatural, and spiritual. Using mixed media materials such as antique maps, thread, birch bark, and oil paint she creates textured surfaces that invite the viewer into a world of sewn layers. With her research of nature, and pushing herself to my limits while running through its many forms, she creates an abstract translation with unique materials that visually explore physicality and place.

Crystal graduated from Indiana State University in 2009 with an MFA with Highest Distinction in Painting. Crystal is a dedicated educator and currently she is an Assistant Professor and Gallery Director for the Department of Art and Design at Marian University. Crystal has been in numerous group and solo exhibitions including Interesting Artifacts, a group show at the Harrison Center for the Arts in Indianapolis, Indiana and Submerge and Surface, a solo exhibition at McKendree University Gallery in St. Louis.

The Marian University Art Gallery (Evans Center) is located on the north end of the second floor of the Michael Evans Center for Health Sciences on the Marian University campus. Gallery hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays.  Please contact the Director of Galleries Crystal Vicars at cvicarspugh@marian.edu or 317.955.6665 for additional information.
