On Monday, November 14, 2016, the Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MU-COM) welcomed Boyd R. Buser, DO, American Osteopathic Association (AOA) president to campus.
The day’s events included a meeting with President Daniel J. Elsener and Donald Sefcik, DO, vice president of health professions and dean of MU-COM. Following the meeting was a tour of the Michael A. Evans Center for Health Sciences, a discussion with faculty, and a luncheon with students. To conclude his visit, Dr. Buser led an Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) seminar for students and faculty.
“We are very appreciative of the time that Dr. Buser spent with us. His update to our students and faculty was timely and assured us that we are on the right trajectory as we prepare to graduate our first class in May,” Dr. Sefcik said. “As a dean himself, his comments on our progress as a relatively new college were very encouraging. His time spent in our OM lab sharing his expertise with our students and faculty was the capstone of his visit.”
Dr. Buser is vice president for health affairs and dean of the University of Pikeville-Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine (UP-KYCOM). He is also a professor of osteopathic principles and practice and professor of family medicine.
Dr. Buser received the A.T. Still Medallion of Honor from the American Academy of Osteopathy in 2010, the Riland Medal for Public Service from the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2013, and the Santucci Award for his contributions to the mission of the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners. In 2015, he received the Pioneer of Osteopathic Medicine Award from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine.
