Marian University adds Admission Counselor in St. Louis

by Mark Apple | Aug 31, 2016

Gwen Tohill-MacamMarian University, Indianapolis’ only Catholic university, has hired St. Louis-based Gwen Tohill-Macam as its first regional admission counselor in the area.

In this newly created position, Tohill-Macam is responsible for the recruitment of full-time and part-time students to Marian University from St. Louis and the surrounding area. She also serves as a Marian University spokesperson for prospective student recruitment and alumni engagement.

To engage prospective students in the area, Tohill-Macam will arrange and attend college fairs and high school visits to promote educational opportunities, counsel prospective students on the academic programs and extracurricular activities offered, and inform students about available forms of financial aid.

“Marian University has had tremendous recent success recruiting outside our home state, especially in Cincinnati and Louisville,” Luann Brames, director of freshmen admission, said. “Students who want to continue their Catholic education, but prefer a smaller college in a large metropolitan setting, find Marian University especially appealing. Because St. Louis has a large number of Catholic high schools, and because Indy is an easy four-hour drive, we expect we will get a lot of interest from students and their parents.”

Tohill-Macam has a 19-year background in educational administration, previously working for Indiana State University, Hanover College, and DePauw University. She was also Assistant Director of Admission and Assistant Business Manager from 2011-13 at Carlisle School in Chatham, Va.

Tohill-Macam has a master’s degree in College Student Personnel Administration from Indiana State University and is affiliated with the National Association of Campus Activities (NACA), the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), the American College Personnel Association (ACPA), and Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education, previously known as the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA).
