by Katie Bradley | Jun 26, 2014

This summer, take advantage of the warm weather and cycling opportunities at the Indy Cycloplex, home of the Major Taylor Velodrome.

Throughout July and August, the Cycloplex will host race nights featuring great competition from local and regional cyclists. Recurring events include the Throw Down Thursday and Fast Friday series. Sun King Brewery, food trucks, and concessions will be on-site during these events, with free admission and parking. In addition, daily programming, including clinics at the Velodrome and BMX track, continues during the week.

“There’s a multitude of opportunities that we provide to racers and non-racers alike,” said Dean Peterson, executive director of the Indy Cycloplex. “We hope that everyone who enjoys bikes, whether you compete or not, has the chance to come out to the park and take in all that we have to offer to the community. There’s something for everyone, including spectators who want to enjoy a fun night at a city park with food, drink, and friends.”

Mark your calendars for September 25-28 when the 2014 USA Cycling Collegiate Track National Championships visit the Major Taylor Velodrome. Collegiate teams from across the country will travel to Indianapolis to compete at the highest level. The Marian University Cycling Team will look to defend their Division I Team Championship on their home track.

Beginning Thursday, July 10, Indy Cycloplex will also host the Marian University Farmer’s Market every Thursday from 5-8 p.m. through September 25. This pilot program will feature local vendors selling fresh, Indiana-grown produce, herbal teas, honey products, and more.

About the Indy Cycloplex

Formally known as the Lake Sullivan Sports Complex, the Indy Cycloplex came under the management of Marian University in a partnership with the City of Indianapolis starting in April 2011.

With support from Mayor Greg Ballard and the Indianapolis City County Council, the University is leading the effort for a new era for this historic city park, the home of the Major Taylor Velodrome and a newly-renovated BMX track. Many opportunities exist to promote health and fitness to residents of all ages, as well as to create a nationally recognized competitive cycling facility that can host races and events in five cycling disciplines, as well as engage the community in unique ways.
