Student Interns for NFL FLAG

by Sarah Storm | Aug 17, 2017
Owen GilbertOwen Gilbert ’19, a junior marketing major with a sports concentration, is spending his summer interning for USA Football in the National Football League (NFL) FLAG department.

Some of Owen’s daily responsibilities include: researching youth football leagues to convert them to NFL FLAG, assisting league commissioners with marketing their league, assisting with the registration process of creating a new league, and talking about football with coaches, league commissioners, and parents.

“My favorite part has been developing relationships with my co-workers,” says Owen. “I work with a lot of great people from a variety of sports backgrounds. It has been fun making connections in the sports world and hearing how sports have impacted each of their careers.”

Since Owen hopes to work on the business side of sports, NFL FLAG was a perfect fit.

Through this internship, Owen has developed more confidence and stronger communication skills.

“In the competitive nature of the sports market, if you don't possess strong communication and organizational skills, you won't have a job,” says Owen. “I will practice and enhance these skills in my final two years of undergrad and through at least one more internship.”
