Marian University’s Educators College Now Offering Master of Arts in Teaching Online Program

by Greg Albright | Apr 12, 2017

Marian University’s Educators College will offer a new Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) Online degree beginning Fall 2017. The flexible 18-24 month program (dependent on the licensure area) will also offer part-time tracks.

Students can pursue a teaching license (18-24 credit hours) that takes approximately 18 months to complete, while the MAT Online track (36 credit hours) takes approximately 24 months to complete. Both programs require at least one semester of full-time teaching (a minimum of 17 weeks) in a local school. Teacher candidates that currently work as a full-time classroom teacher may be able to meet the clinical internship requirement with their current position.

“Whether the goal is to receive a master’s degree in teaching or a desire to graduate with a teaching license, our new MAT Online program now offers this flexibility,” said Erika Wise, Director, Online Programs. “It prepares individuals with career aspirations to be teacher leaders who want to transform schools, students’ lives, families, society, and our world.”

Applicants must have earned an undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited university with a cumulative GPA 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, or a cumulative GPA 2.5 or higher and five years of professional work experience. However, the undergraduate degree does not have to be in education.

“Our current MAT program is already one of the best in the state and the rigor of the new MAT Online program will remain the same,” said Kenith C. Britt, Ph.D., senior vice president of teacher learning excellence and dean of The Educators College. “We will have top faculty teaching in the online program because our overall goal at The Educators College is to be one of the best education programs in the country. And, our new MAT Online program will help us achieve that goal by preparing highly effective teachers."

Applications for the fall semester are now being accepted. Additional information is available at http://www.marian.edu/matonline.
