Co-curricular program

Franciscan speaker series

Each year, Marian University invites well known Franciscans to campus to cultivate the Catholic and Franciscan intellectual traditions. Talks are open to the public.

Pilgrimage to Assisi

One of the most unique aspects of the "Rebuild My Church" program is the annual pilgrimage to Assisi. Members from the Marian University community have an opportunity to deepen their personal relationship with God through visits to the major sanctuaries associated with SS. Francis and Clare of Assisi. Pilgrims lives are enriched and transformed through participation in rituals, prayers, Eucharistic celebrations, historical visits, and lectures. By journeying through their life stories, these two saints help us to “fix our gaze on God.”

The program’s goals are threefold:

  1. to bring into focus the transformative vision and legacy of SS. Francis and Clare;
  2. inculcate Franciscan values into Franciscan systems;
  3. help leaders clarify the vision and values which shape the philosophy of Franciscan Institutions.

Four faculty/staff members are chosen in the spring semester each year to make a pilgrimage in October to walk in the footsteps of Francis and Clare. Faculty and staff members chosen represent a wide spectrum across the campus.

Four students are chosen each spring to make a pilgrimage in late December and early January. Marian University students join students from other Franciscan colleges and universities in Assisi to deepen their understanding.

Service learning fair

In the Jewish and Christian traditions, one place where a person encounters God is in doing the works of justice. Liberation theology offers us the insight that while working for social justice, people experience and discern the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. For more than 15 years, Marian University has promoted service learning as a way to continue discerning one’s calling.

Vocation fair

Each year Marian University holds a vocation fair which includes over 50 religious organizations. Religious participants come to campus to share their life experiences with students. It also gives students an opportunity to learn more about the various religious charisms in their search for a more meaningful life.
