Biography
John Lucich, MD, was awarded Emeritus Professor in March 2025 at the Marian University Tom and Julie Wood College of Osteopathic Medicine (MU-WCOM). Dr. Lucich joined the MU-WCOM clinical faculty as an associate professor in August 2014. His main teaching responsibilities are linked to the Introduction to Clinical Medicine series of courses, which helps students integrate clinical medicine topics via problem-based learning, standardized patient examinations, and experiences in the simulation laboratory.
Dr. Lucich earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry in 1980 and a medical doctorate (MD) in 1984, both from Indiana University. He is residency-trained and board-certified in Internal Medicine.
Dr. Lucich began his practice career at St. Vincent Hospital in Emergency Medicine in 1987 but decided to enter academia in 1995. Initially, he helped start the Physician Assistant program at Butler University and simultaneously served as the Associate Director of Internal Medicine Education at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. In 1999 Dr. Lucich joined the physician assistant faculty full-time and served as the program’s director from 2001 until 2010.
His academic interests include the connections between basic science and clinical medicine, the clinical decision-making process, and the application of evidence-based medicine. His hobbies include mathematics/computer programming, small home renovation projects, and riding his motorcycle.

Dr. Lucich’s scholarly interests include the practice of evidence-based medicine and the application of technology in education.
