Instrumental Ensembles

Marian University's instrumental ensembles offer a high quality musical experience while performing music from multiple genres, cultures, and time periods. From classical and standard repertoire to contemporary pieces our ensembles will create a memorable experience for you. Membership in these ensembles is open to all Marian University students and auditions are not required. Scholarship opportunities are available for all majors as well.

Basketball band

  • basketball bandMembers of Marian's Basketball Band perform at all home basketball games for both men’s and women’s teams. The MU Basketball band also has the opportunity to travel with the basketball teams to playoff and championship games! Students in this group will earn a stipend for participation. Chamber Ensembles

  • As a student in our brass and woodwind Chamber Ensembles, you will perform standard and contemporary chamber pieces.(Brass Choir, Woodwind Quintet, and Saxophone Quartet)

Drumline

  • As a member of Marian's Marching Knights Drumline, you will perform with the marching band at all home football games and other on- and off-campus venues. Members of our drumline also participate in annual Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) competitions.

Jazz band

  • jazz bandMarian's Jazz Band performs standard and contemporary jazz works. The ensemble includes saxophone, trombone, trumpet, drums, piano, bass, and guitar student musicians. The band has performed at off-campus venues including the Indianapolis Motor Speedway with Wayne Newton. The MU Jazz Band also participates and helps run the annual Marian University Jazz Festival in February. Contact Professor Shawn Goodman for more information.

Marching Knights

  • As a member of the Marian University Marching Knights, you will perform at home football games, parades, pep rallies, and other campus events. The Marching Knights also participate in ocassional exhibition performances at band contests as well as the Bands of America Regional and Grand National competitions in Lucas Oil Stadium. Percussion ensemble

  • Marian's Percussion Ensemble performs standard and contemporary percussion works. As a member, you will participate in events like the Indiana Percussion Association clinic each December.

String ensemble

  • Marian's string ensemble is made up of music majors and non-music majors who enjoy performing classical to contemporary orchestral literature. The string ensemble performs two concerts per semester and is under the direction of Professor James Johnston.

Wind ensemble

  • wind ensembleAs a student in our Wind Ensemble, you will perform standard works in the wind ensemble repertoire. This ensemble performs at least two concerts per semester, including one off campus at the Hilbert Circle Theatre in downtown Indianapolis or the Palladium in Carmel.
