Pastoral musician, educator, and minister, Joey Garcia, is an adjunct faculty member of the Department of Music who directs the Marian University Sacred Choir and serves as University Minister of Worship, Music and the Arts on Marian University's ministry team.
Joey has been professionally employed by the Catholic Church since 2011 as a music minister and currently serves as a Director of Music at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church in Westfield, Indiana; a parish that ministers to over 1,800 families. He has more than 10 years experience teaching music in Catholic Schools. His teaching experience includes directing both instrumental and choral groups with students from kindergarten through 12th grade. In 2021 while employed at Guerin Catholic High School as the chair of the Music Department, Joey received the Bishop Higi Leadership Alumni Award from the Diocese of Lafayette.
Joey holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in pastoralMusic Ministry and in Music Education from Marian University, with a minor in Pastoral Leadership. Durning his time at Marian University, Joey also graduated as a San Damiano Scholar, where he met his wife Laura. They have 4 children and live in Westfield. Joey has taken continuing education courses through Vandercook College of Music in Chicago.
Professor Garcia is also a member of the Indianapolis Archdiocesan Schola Cantorum Choir Vox Sacra and sings regularly for Archdiocesan events with the Archdiocesan Choir. He enjoys playing a variety of different instruments and also recreationally plays bass guitar for Vinyl Trends, a pop/funk group in Indianapolis
