Biography
Dr. Holly Skillman-Dougherty is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Psychology and Counseling at Marian University – Indianapolis. Dr. Skillman-Dougherty completed her BS in Psychology and BA in Biology from Marian University in 2007, an MA in Educational Psychology with a concentration in Human Development from Ball State University in 2010, and a PhD in International Psychology with a concentration in Trauma Services from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in 2016. Her research focused on mental health stigma and attitudes about gender based violence among those who work with refugees and asylees. Dr. Skillman-Dougherty has been an educator for more than ten years and joined the Department of Psychological Sciences and Counseling at Marian University as adjunct faculty in January of 2017.
Since 2011, Dr. Skillman-Dougherty has been a volunteer with various refugee and human trafficking advocacy organizations in her community and active in school-based initiatives that focus on anti-bullying, social health concerns, and empowering youth to make informed, healthy choices. Dr. Skillman-Dougherty serves on the Board of Directors for mental health and women’s empowerment non-profit organizations in her community.
Dr. Skillman-Dougherty is an active member of the American Psychological Association, Midwestern Psychological Association, International Association of Cross-Cultural Psychologists, and APA Divisions 35 and 52.
