Kylie Ray, a senior in Marian's Adult Programs, is hosting a fundraiser, inspired by her senior project, at Moe & Johnny's on Friday, August 17 in support of Indy Humane.

Luna, rescue dogMAP business student, Kylie Ray has a huge heart for animals. Her rescue dog was found in a trailer park, as a puppy, somewhere in Hamilton County. Little Luna had such severe demodex mange that she had open sores and wounds on her. The workers at the Humane Society in Hamilton County didn't even know what color her fur was, because she didn't have any.

Kylie’s passion for animals inspired her senior project in Marian’s adult and online programs. What started as a small fundraising effort for Indy Humane has turned into a large summer event for the community, thanks to the sponsorship of Moe & Johnny’s, a local sports bar and restaurant, and the kind donations of Triton Brewing Company, Tito’s Vodka and Bear Republic Brewing Company.

Ray works at Moe & Johnny’s, located at 54th and College, which has been a SoBro/Butler Tarkington neighborhood staple since 1922. Rae and her Assistant Manager, Chelsea Heidt have partnered to make this event a success and intend to make this an annual event; all proceeds will go to Indy Humane, the Indianapolis Humane Society, located at 79th and Michigan Road.

Indy Humane is a limited admission shelter that does not euthanize animals. According to their website, their lifesaving percentage was just over 96 percent for 2017, which is incredibly impressive, considering they take in strays, surrenders and rescues in Indiana and beyond. Volunteers contribute over 60,000 hours of time in the name of love, and as Indy Humane says, “it’s all for the animals”.

Moe & Johnny’s Assistant Manager, Heidt has welcomed a rescue dog into her home, too, and she has embraced this opportunity to benefit Indy Humane’s mission, while expanding Moe & Johnny’s community outreach. This outdoor patio fundraiser will take place on Friday, August 17th, from 5-8 p.m., at 5380 N. College Ave, Indianapolis. This will be a cash only event, and an ATM will be available on site for convenience.

There will be a doggie kissing booth and corn hole; adoptable dogs and cats from Indy Humane will be in attendance. There will be a silent auction with items that include tickets to an Indians game, facials at a Carmel salon, restaurant gift cards, Nicky Blaine's gift card and cigar basket, massage gift certificates, Indy Eleven tickets and merchandise, Fever merchandise, and much more!

Available for drinks will be $5 craft pints from Triton and Bear Republic. Tito’s cocktails will also be available. Moe & Johnny's will be providing complimentary snacks for the guests and featuring a special Doggie Snack Menu, featuring bacon strips, burger patties and more. There will also be dog swag for pet owners, compliments of Tito’s.
