Biography

I currently live in the Charlotte area of North Carolina with my wife and two sons. I study a variety of aspects in the field of biology, including herpetology, conservation genetics, wildlife ecology, and outreach science. I mainly research the Eastern Hellbender Salamander in North Carolina, North America’s giant salamander, a fully aquatic salamander that lives in streams across Appalachia. I frequently participate in outreach education events with local communities where I bring live snakes and other critters so that kids can learn about reptiles and conservation. I have been teaching for over ten years and in my free time I enjoy hiking, camping, kayaking, and playing the ukulele.
