Career opportunities and employment outlook

The amount of information produced by today's society is vast and a valuable resource for organizations with the ability to manage it. Students earning degrees in business analytics work in a variety of areas within the organization. They acquire the skills to transform information on customers, suppliers, employees, job applicants, product quality and competitors, into value-enhancing strategies.  Business analytics majors also serve as business translators within an organization, working with decision-makers to interpret the technical language of data scientists and programmers in terms of firm value.

In an article titled The Age of Analytics: Competing in a Data-Driven World, the McKinsey Global Institute notes a talent scarcity for business translators. They forecast two to four million job openings over the next few years for business translators, while the U.S. Department of Labor projects a growth rate of 25 percent for all data-related jobs by 2018.
