“Marian University has concerned, encouraging, intelligent, and compassionate teachers and staff. I learned much about my faith, about philosophy and psychology, and how to serve others.”

In the fall of 2012, Tenbarge will begin studies and formation at Saint Meinrad Seminary. Tenbarge is anticipating being ordained as a priest to serve the Diocese of Evansville.

After graduating from high school, Tyler Tenbarge enrolled as a part-time student at Purdue University, while traveling full-time with the National Future Farmers of America Organization as the Indiana FFA State President and National FFA Eastern Region Vice President. “After more than two years of working with agricultural and political professionals and facilitating leadership development for students, I realized that I was being called to live out my faith—not in politics or business—but in the vocation of Catholic priesthood.” Tenbarge applied to Marian University and the Bishop Simon Bruté College Seminary.

Tenbarge received a 21st Century Scholar Tuition Scholarship and the Bishop Simon Bruté Scholarship. As a senior, he was recognized with the Servant Leader Award, Outstanding Senior Philosophy Student Award in the Department of Theology and Philosophy, and recognition in Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. He was also on the state-winning speech team in 2010. The biggest area of influence for Tenbarge was with Students Taking Active Reflective Roles (STARR). “It was an easy way to ‘love thy neighbor’ and build friendships with others in the community. Learning how to spend time with children who have challenging home lives, learning to relate with adults who have disabilities, and beginning to grasp the simplicity and power of Catholic social teaching has helped me to see with the eyes of Jesus Christ. It will profoundly influence my ministry as a priest.”
