Beginning Monday, February 25 and continuing for eight consecutive weeks, “The 12 Secrets to the Building Blocks of Writing and the Gray Areas of Publishing,” a writing course sponsored by The WriteStuff Writers, will be available to Marian University students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the general public.*
Designed for writers of all levels, the one-of-a-kind “12 Secrets” creative writing course package engages writers in fun, interactive workshop-style classes that cover a wide array of genres (fiction, non-fiction, memoir, romance, mystery, screenplay adaption, etc.). Students will explore the concepts of plot, character, setting, dialogue, theme, and more.
Additionally students can expect to participate in active learning focused on getting their writing noticed and published. Attendees will complete brief classroom writing exercises and share important interactions with their classmates. Together and with guest presenters, they will learn how to write query letters that catch an editor's eye, prepare professional proposals that yield results, and review original manuscripts for both clarity and impact.
Jeannine “Andy” Murphy will instruct the course. Murphy serves as The WriteStuff Writers' executive director and is a seasoned author, digital publisher, and regional literary agent. She brings more than 20 years experience working in the world of corporate communications and has authored four books.
In addition to her varied and dedicated involvement in the Indiana writing community, Murphy has represented some well-renowned Hoosier clients including Randy Tobias, Mike Ahern, Dick Wolfsie, and Matthew Tulley among others.
Joining Murphy in instructing this workshop is Marcia Ellett, an author, professional book editor, and humor columnist.
The complete eight-week “12 Secrets” course package runs from 6:30-8 p.m. on Monday evenings, beginning on February 25, in Marian Hall, Room 313. The general public enjoys a value price of just $159. Marian University students and alumni may take advantage of discounted rates at just $59 and $100 respectively. Walk-in attendance is offered at $35 for each single Monday night class. All class attendees will receive a 10 percent discount to the National WriteStuff Writers Conference to be held in July 2013.
