It's a Girl to be Shown on March 4, 2013

by Robin Buschner | Feb 26, 2013

Marian University’s Gender Studies Committee, Knights for Life, and the Sophia Club willIt's a Girl co-host a special screening of It’s a Girl on Monday, March 4, 2013 at 7 p.m. in the Mother Theresa Hackelmeier Memorial Library Auditorium on the campus of Marian University.

A powerful and thought-provoking film, It’s a Girl, brings attention to the gendercide that is happening every day in China, India, and other parts of southeast Asia. In India, China, and many other parts of the world, girls are killed, aborted, and abandoned just because they are girls. The United Nations estimates that there are as many as 200 million females missing in the world because of this. The saga unfolds through the stories of the victims, families, global experts, and grassroots activities. Shot on location in India and China, the film draws attention to this crisis and why so little is being done to save these females.

Open to the public and no charge, the movie is being presented on campus as part of the celebration of International Women’s Day, a day set aside to celebrate women and all they have accomplished. The day was first celebrated on February 28, 1909. This year it will be celebrated on March 8, 2013.
