Forging your career path is never easy, but there’s never a better time than the present to think about developing your career. Marian University supports students and alumni in their professional lives through the Exchange, our career development office. The Exchange works with professionals in the Indianapolis community and with students on campus and online to continue an “exchange” of knowledge and services—to help students develop the skills they need to contribute meaningfully to the community after graduation.
The Exchange’s programs take a variety of different forms, from helping students get involved on campus or in their communities to helping with the job search, connecting candidates with professionals in their field, helping them land the job they want.
Interested? Check out four ways you can boost your own career using The Exchange today:
Explore the Exchange Website
The Exchange’s website is stocked full of resources valuable for every stage of your career. See the Career Exploration page to take a career assessment and see lists of what you can do with your intended major, or to simply browse thousands of videos of professionals talking about their careers and sharing knowledge and advice about preparing for their field. See the Prepare to Apply page for guides on creating a stellar resume, writing a cover letter, preparing for a career fair, and much more. Finally, visit Find a Job for links to dozens of websites where you can find open positions in your desired field. The resources on the web page are just enough to get you started in your career discernment or application process.
Make an Appointment with the Exchange
The Exchange can do so much more than review your resume. If you request an appointment on KnightWork you can choose many different appointment options, from career counseling, networking, LinkedIn development, to mock interviews. Students have the option to set up face-to-face appointments or a conference call via phone/video. Whichever appointment type fits your needs, request a time that works for you and come prepared with a list of questions and a copy of your resume (if applicable). Unsure how to address a change of career or a gap in your employment history? The Exchange can help you navigate the tough questions. Your career counselor will meet you where you are and help you find the resources necessary to confidently proceed with the next step in your career.
Schedule a Mock Interview
Need to brush up on your interviewing skills? The Exchange is here to help. Requesting a mock interview is a great way to help you get in gear if you’re searching for a job, and if you cannot come into our office in person, you may perform a virtual mock interview on KnightWork anytime on your own. Don’t wait until the last minute to collect your thoughts and prep for the big interview! If you send your application documents and a job listing to an Exchange counselor prior to a mock interview, they can personalize the practice questions to the position you want, helping you prepare for that specific position.
