Welcome Week!

Marian University officially welcomes new and returning students back to campus each year with a week of fun and entertaining activities. Freshmen arrive to campus on Friday August 16 and returning students move back on Sunday August 18. The campus meal plans begins on Sunday August 18 at lunch. Below is a schedule for the entire week. Please view the calendar for more details.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 15

Dean’s Receptions, 2:30 p.m.

All students and their families are invited to join their faculty and academic deans for the opportunity to celebrate the start of the school year.

New Student Convocation, 4 p.m. 
Marian University Theatre
Convocation is the formal celebration of the oath of matriculation for all new students.  Families are invited to watch.

President’s Reception, 5 p.m. 
Mother Theresa Hackelmeier Memorial Library
Immediately following convocation, all students and their families will parade from the Marian University Theatre to the Mother Theresa Hacklemeier Memorial Library for the university time-honored tradition of signing the Matriculation Book.

Residence Hall and Floor Meetings, 7:30 p.m.                
Residence Halls
Meet your Resident Director, Resident Assistant, and other students living in your hall and on your floor.  Get information on resources, policies, and other things you need to know while living on campus.

Playfair, 10 p.m. – 11:30 p.m.                                                                                        
Physical Education Center
Playfair is totally unlike anything else you have ever experienced.  It’s fun!  It’s entertainment!  It’s the perfect way to meet new friends!

SATURDAY, AUGUST 16

New Student Day of Service, 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m.                                    
Check in at the Franciscan Heritage Fountain
A Marian University tradition!  Get to know and give back to the local community with your fellow students at one of several locations.  

MU Night at Target (38th Street Target), 10 p.m.-midnight                 
Busses depart from Ruth Lilly Student Center
Get all the supplies you need to start the school year.  Target will be open late exclusively for Marian University students.  A free shuttle will depart regularly from the Ruth Lilly Student Center.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 17

Explore Indianapolis, Noon-6 p.m.           
Busses depart from Ruth Lilly Student Center
Busses to downtown Indianapolis will be running all afternoon.  Explore the city and win prizes by participating in a photo scavenger hunt.

Women’s Soccer vs. Alumni, 3 p.m.                                                                      
St. Vincent Health Field
Get to know some of your Marian University Knights as the women’s soccer team takes on a team of alums.

MONDAY, AUGUST 18 First Day of Classes

Back to School Bingo, 7 p.m.

Win back-to-school essentials you may have forgotten and other prizes at our annual bingo game.

TUESDAY, AUGUST 19

STARR (Students Taking Active Reflective Roles), 3 p.m.   
Meet at the lobby, first floor of Oldenburg Hall
Every Friday afternoon, students gather to serve and reflect upon service to the greater Indianapolis community.

Marian University Night at Indianapolis Indians, 7:15 p.m.                            
Busses depart from Ruth Lilly Student Center

Connections: A First Year Gathering, 10 a.m. – 9:30 p.m. 
Connections is a full-day experience just for freshmen focusing on Marian’s four Franciscan values and the transition to college life.
