Dr. Chatterjee

Allison K. Chatterjee, Ph.D. is an assistant professor of anatomy in the Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Chatterjee earned a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences from Texas A&M University. She earned her Ph.D. from the Department of Basic Medical Sciences at Purdue University. Her dissertation work focused on the roles of spatial ability and mental models in learning anatomy.

Before coming to MU-COM, Dr. Chatterjee was an Adjunct Instructor of Anatomy and Physiology at Ivy Tech Community College in 2011. Dr. Chatterjee’s research interests include the influence of spatial ability on learning anatomy and physiology, students’ mental models of anatomy and physiology, and students’ problem-solving strategies within the medical curriculum.

Dr. Chatterjee has received several awards for her teaching. In 2008, she received the Graduate Teacher Certificate from the Center for Instructional Excellence (CIE) and the Committee for the Education of Teaching Assistants (CETA) in recognition of her participation in teaching and professional development activities. In 2007, she was awarded the Graduate Student Award for Outstanding Teaching from CETA and the Purdue University Teaching Academy. This award is given annually to an outstanding Basic Medical Sciences Department graduate student to recognize exemplary teaching efforts.

Additionally, Dr. Chatterjee received the Graduate Student Education Research Platform Presentation Award at the American Association of Anatomists Annual Meeting at Experimental Biology in April 2011 for her presentation: The importance of spatial ability and mental models in learning anatomy.

Dr. Chatterjee resides in the south side of Indianapolis with her husband and their two cats, Fonzie and Ginger. In her spare time Dr. Chatterjee enjoys painting and yoga.
