This holiday season, give to those in need by donating your shoes. Any shoe, in any condition is accepted.
Donation boxes are located in all residence halls, Marian Hall, and the Ruth Lilly Student Center.
“We do not always think about how many extra shoes we own when some people do not even have one functional pair to protect their feet,” said Kelsea Manion, a sophomore studying pastoral leadership and French. “People without shoes run the risk of many diseases, fungi, and wounds. We want to bring more awareness of the issue to campus.”
Shoes will be accepted through December 9. The shoe drive is a sophomore service project for the San Damiano program.
The shoes will be donated to Changing Footprints, Inc. , a nonprofit organization founded in 2004 whose purpose is to provide shoes locally, nationally, or internationally to those who need them. They operate from warehouses located in Rushville and Indianapolis, Indiana. Changing Footprints works with many social services agencies, church missions, medical relief teams, military personnel, and disaster relief teams, requesting shoes for their missions.
According to Changing Footprints web site, “Changing Footprints realizes the great need for shoes around the world as protection from diseases and a gateway to education.”
