On Monday, November 5, the Marian University Department of Music presents the Sacred Choir Concert, featuring the Marian University Sacred Choir, with performances by the Marian University Chamber Singers. Special guests, celebrated drummer, Dion Clay, and renowned composer and guitarist, Bobby Fisher, will also perform.
The concert will include selections by well-known Christian artists, John Angotti, David Haas, Lori True, and Bobby Fisher. The choir will also sing sacred choral pieces by Dan Forrest and gospel-style songs with a wide variety of styles of sacred music and instrumentation.
“I attended the Sacred Choir Concert when it was given for the Sisters of St. Francis, Oldenburg, Indiana on October 7. Each student who sang, played an instrument, or directed the chorus reflected the meaning of the words in his or her expression. That, in turn, made me even more aware of the goodness of God. I found myself ‘dancing’ in my chair, keeping time with my feet, singing along with the words in the program, and wondering what would come next. All the way back to Indianapolis, I sang sacred songs,” said Sr. Jean Marie Cleveland, OSF ’64, vice president of mission effectiveness.
Special guest, Msgr. Ray East, pastor of St. Teresa of Avila in Washington, D.C. will give a brief presentation on his sister parish in Haiti, St. Antoine. The event will be free, but Marian University will take up a free will offering for St. Teresa of Avila and St. Antoine’s parishes.
At the concert, “In the Arms of Jesus,” the Sacred Choir’s 75th anniversary CD, will be given away. The ”John Angotti Live” CD featuring the Sacred Choir and “Breath of Heaven,” the Marian University Christmas CD, will be available for purchase.
The concert will be held in the Bishop Chartrand Memorial Chapel in Marian Hall at 7 p.m. and is open to the public.
The Sacred Choir
The Sacred Choir is open to anyone associated with Marian University, including staff, faculty, alumni, and spouses. It also plans to expand the parish outreach program to include other parishes and Catholic high schools. One of the choir’s key goals is to keep the focus on participation and not entertainment.
“We are really about sharing our faith through music. We are witnessing to the larger community,” says Clare Bain, director of the Sacred Choir, “Our mission is to draw others in through music, to participate and experience a love of singing with faith that sparkles and shines!” And the circle keeps getting bigger.
At Marian University, that opportunity is alive and growing. You could be a part of an experience that will change not only your life, but also the lives of everyone around you.
