The dedication of the Blessed Mother Mary Shrine and Rosary Walk will be held Friday, March 2, 2012 at 10:45 a.m. The shrine is located just east of Doyle Hall on campus. Amongst the phenomenal growth on the Marian University campus in recent years – the new University Hall residence building, the St.Vincent Health Field and athletic complex, and the much-anticipated Michael A. Evans College of Osteopathic Medicine, there has existed another, quieter project in the making - The Blessed Mother Mary Shrine and Rosary Walk. Erected as a tribute to the University's patroness, Mary the Immaculate Conception, the Shrine is indeed a testament to the many blessings Mary has bestowed upon her namesake. The new Blessed Mother Mary Shrine and Rosary Walk are situated brilliantly on the south side of the Marian University campus, drawing inspiration from the nearby Tea Gardens. Visible from the athletic field and three residence halls, and just steps away from where the new medical school will soon stand, the Shrine is nestled in the perfect space to “allow for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends to pause in their busy days and reflect and pray,” says Sr. Jean Marie Cleveland, the university's vice president for Mission Effectiveness. The fountain at the Shrine's entrance offers a place for reflection, while circles and small lights provide places to pause for each prayer of the Rosary. Many are enamored with the gorgeous sight of the Shrine's blue lights shining at night. Those closest to the project anticipate that the Blessed Mother Mary Shrine and Rosary Walk will be used for private prayer and contemplation, as well as communal services and outdoor Masses. Continued fundraising and a portion of the university's operating budget will aid the sacred space in being recognized, maintained, and supported over time. Students look forward to a community landscaping day this spring.
