Multiple Internships Lead to Success
Corrine Purvis, double majoring in theology and communication, has found her true direction by experiencing four internships while at Marian University. She says the last two paid internships are the most rewarding because they have given her more responsibility. Over the summer 2010, Purvis worked for the Indiana Republican Party researching candidates, news articles, and blogs. This internship gave her great opportunities to network with republican leaders in Indiana through state-wide events and receptions.
Her current internship is with the Indiana Catholic Conference (ICC), a lobbying agency for the Catholic Archdiocese of Indianapolis. This internship requires Purvis to visit the Indiana State House to follow the process of bills becoming laws. “School choice” is the bill she is tracking this month.
Two things she most values from her internship are hands-on experiences and networking opportunities. After graduation, Purvis is headed to law school with her eyes on employment in state or local government.
