Marian University

Productions

Escanaba in da Moonlight by Jeff DanielsTheatre has been an integral part of the Marian University experience since the very first theatrical production of a one act comedy titled, What Price Society, in the spring of 1938. Over 70 years and over 250 shows later, Marian University continues to promote the dramatic arts on campus through academic programs and productions, clubs, and partnerships.

Three shows are produced annually with a commitment to produce one play for children each spring and a musical every other year. Productions primarily occur in Peine Theatre in Fisher Hall. Peine Theatre; which is named after Sr. Mary Jane Peine, the founder of theatre at Marian Univeristy (formerly Marian College); is a flexible black box theatre allowing students to have a unique opportunity to work and perform in a variety of different stage configurations. Marian University also boasts a second venue in Allen Whitehill Clowes Amphitheater, an outdoor ampitheatre.

Students also have multiple opportunities to be involved in other theatre-related events on campus like the department of performing arts’s annual Christmas at Marian event, the Performing Knights Club, the annual trip to the Shakespeare Festival, or the Indianapolis Civic Theatre
