Will I be issued a Marian University e-mail account?
You will receive a letter explaining how to access your email account and what benefits and features it provides. Your advisor will be sending this letter during your first term of classes. Your username and password will also be used to access the technology in the library and computer labs on campus.

top

Do I need a parking permit?
When you take classes on the Marian University campus you will need a parking permit. It will be sent with your textbook and syllabus. Our Keystone Crossing, Greenwood, Fishers, and Brownsburg sites do not require parking permits.

How and when will I get my books?
We ship your books and ancillary items right to your home along with the syllabus. We include a separate sheet telling you which building and room your particular class will be held in. These are mailed 10 to 14 days prior to the first night of each new term.

top

What is the policy about textbooks?
Textbooks and ancillary items are loaned to students and returned at the end of the course. Because they will be reissued to other students in later terms, it is important to keep them in good condition. Do not write or highlight in your textbook.

If upon receiving your book from UPS you notice damage, you must document in writing all damages by the end of the first week of the new term and submit it to your advisor. Students who return a damaged textbook will be charged $100 per book. Ink marks, food or liquid spills, and disfigured pages are considered damage.

top

How and when do I return my book and/or ancillary items?
You should return your book and/or ancillary items to your instructor in your classroom on the last night of each term. If you forget, or if you need to keep them beyond the last night of the term.  If you forget to do so, or if you need to keep them beyond the last night of the term, you must return them to the MAP office and get a receipt, within two weeks. If you still have your textbook and/or ancillary items once the grace period has elapsed, you will be assessed a $100 fee per book/ancillary item. Check your MAP calendar for the last date books/ancillary items can be returned for each term. Once bills have been issued for outstanding books/ancillary items, they cannot be returned.

Is there a MAP calendar telling me dates, times, holidays, etc?
Your MAP schedule is one of your most valuable tools. On the back of the schedule you will find the MAP calendar where you’ll see the starting and ending dates for upcoming terms. Classes start at 5:45 p.m. and end at 9:45 p.m. and Saturday morning classes are scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. You can see what week books will be shipped; when tuition is due; when grades will be mailed; and what holidays are observed.

top

Where and when will my grades be posted?
Your grades will be available online via the Marian University student portal about one week after the term ends. A printer friendly version of your grades is accessible in the portal.  Student portal information will be mailed to you during your first term in MAP.

How do I receive credit for training programs and college credit exams?
Official transcripts for training programs and college credit exams are not required for admission; however, they may be submitted directly to the MAP admission counselor for credit evaluation.  Examples include military documents, DD214, LOMA, CLEP/DSST exams, and programs approved by the American Council on Education (ACE).  Interested studetns must request that an official transcript be sent directly to the admisson counselor prior to the student's last 30 (15) credit hours in the bachelor (associate) degree program at Marian University.  Credit awarded will be determined by the Office of the Registrar.

top

Would you explain tuition deferment?
In MAP, you don’t pay for the class before you take it. You pay for each course 28 days after it is completed. You will receive a statement in the mail about one week after the term has completed, and your payment is due about three weeks later.

top

What happens if my tuition isn’t paid on time?
If tuition is not paid by the date posted on the MAP calendar, you will be charged a $75 per class late fee. You will be dropped from all future courses and will not be allowed to register for subsequent terms until tuition payments are current. Once dropped, you are not automatically put back in those classes when tuition is received. Be sure to talk to your advisor.

What should I do if I have questions regarding my bill?
For any questions regarding billing or tuition, please call the Business Office at 317.955.6020.

What is the attendance policy in MAP?
Attendance is a critical part of success in accelerated programs, so there is very little room for absence. MAP policy states that classroom attendance in week one of each term is mandatory. Any student registered in but not attending the first class meeting will be automatically dropped from that class without exception. First week drops are not recorded on a student’s transcript; however, they will be assessed the $40 drop fee.

Under emergency circumstances, a student may miss one class during weeks 2-5 of a five-week course, two classes during weeks 2-10 of a ten-week course, or two classes during after the first class meeting of a course that meets two times per week.  In all cases of an excused absence, students need to contact their instructor and make arrangements to make up assignments that were missed.

MAP classes meet from 5:45 to 9:45 p.m. week nights and 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturdays.  We realize that students may run a few minutes late because of work, family, or traffic; however, students will be counted as absent if they arrive after 6:15 p.m.  for evening classes or after 9:00 a.m. for Saturday classes.  Instructors will hold class for the entire four hours.  Students are required to be in attendance until the class ends.  Those leaving prior to dismissal will be counted as absent.

What happens if I need or want to add or drop a class?
Students may add or drop classes without penalty up to the week of the textbook shipment. Beginning the week textbooks are shipped, students will be assessed a $40 fee per class for any dropped classes. These dates are listed on the MAP calendar, found on the back of the MAP schedule. After textbooks are shipped, students may add classes with no additional fee, but will need to pick up their textbook at the main campus or Keystone Crossing location.

There will be no tuition charge if a course is dropped by Friday (4:30 p.m.) of the first week of classes. For students enrolled in Saturday classes, there will be no tuition charge if the course is dropped by Monday (6:00 p.m.) immediately following the first class.  MAP students will be assessed a $40 drop fee per course for all drops made on or after the date posted on the MAP calendar.

Students may withdraw from class during the second week, but there will be a penalty of 50 percent of the course tuition, a $40 drop fee, and a “W” recorded to do so. Call your advisor. Most students find a way to stay in the class and complete it successfully. Classes cannot be dropped after week two. Students who quit attending after week two will be assigned an "F" for the course and will be responsible for 100 percent of the tuition.

May I bring my child to class with me if I don’t have a babysitter?
No. Students who bring children to class disrupt the learning process. Therefore, students are not permitted to bring children to a MAP class. In addition, unsupervised children are not permitted on Marian University premises, including all MAP locations.

top

Would you explain residency requirements?
Residency requirements refer to the number of credits that must be earned within MAP, not inclusive of transfer credit or non-traditional credit. In the associate degree program in MAP, the last 15 credit hours must be earned in the classroom; in the bachelor degree program in MAP, the last 30 credit hours must be earned in the classroom.

top

What is meant by non-traditional credit?
Credits earned through exam programs such as CLEP and DANTES, Advanced Placement, military service, ACE recommendations, departmental exams, portfolios, and other approved experiences are defined as non-traditional. Talk to your advisor. There are limits on how many non-traditional credit hours will be accepted in Marian's Adult Programs.

Who is eligible for the Dean’s List?
Students carrying a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester, with no incompletes, and who maintain a minimum of GPA of 3.50 are eligible for the Dean’s List.

top

What are the requirements to graduate with honors?
