Global Studies Minor
(18 credit hours)
Today’s era of globalization produces new opportunities as well as challenges. The successful university graduate will need a new set of skills and knowledge bases—including the life-changing experience of studying abroad—in order to understand, maneuver in, and contribute to this increasingly complex world. Marian University’s Global Studies students learn to think critically and address a wide variety of global issues in an ethically conscious manner.
Our unique Global Studies (GLS) minor makes a powerful addition to any major in the liberal arts or professional studies. The GLS minor requires 18 hours including:
- GLS 101 (Global Perspectives)
- Two GLS 380 interdisciplinary Global Issues Seminars
- Six additional hours of foreign language study (continuing in same language)
- A minimum of three credit hours of approved study abroad experience.
- Optional: GLS 360 Global Studies Internship
Study Abroad
Once you join the Global Studies program, you’ll need to get a passport. All GLS students will go abroad, for a summer or semester’s study, or for one of Marian University’s faculty-led, three-credit “Maymester” trips. LFCGS works in close coordination with Marian University’s director of Study Abroad to ensure that you will obtain an exciting and rewarding study abroad experience.
