Dr. John Coppinger joined the Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine as a full time Assistant Professor of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) in August 2015. Previously he had been a clinical faculty volunteer and also served as clinical adjunct assistant professor in the Dept. of OMM. He graduated from the University Of New England College Of Osteopathic Medicine in 1992 and completed his internship at the Atlantic City Medical Center in 1993. He attended a combined family medicine/OMM residency at Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine and earned his board certification from the American Osteopathic Board of Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine in 2005.
After gaining expertise as a baker and pastry chef as his first career, Dr. Coppinger returned to school by attending Northwestern Connecticut Community College. He transferred to the School of the Hartford Ballet and graduated from there in 1984 with a Certificate in Dance Education after focusing on Classical Ballet education and movement therapy. While in the U.S. Army Reserve he studied physical therapy at the Academy of Health Sciences, Ft. Sam Houston, TX. He later finished his undergraduate education in 1988 at Central Connecticut State University.
Dr. Coppinger spent twenty-one years in a variety of practice settings. He did general practice in rural Ohio, served on U.S. Department of State contracts in Iraq, and most recently operated an OMM micro practice in Bloomington IN.
Dr. Coppinger homeschooled his two, now grown, children. He has been on faculty for the BioBasics of Osteopathy for years.
