by News Release | Aug 28, 2018

Mobius Series

Piece by Piece is a two-person exhibition, featuring collaged artwork by Fran Lattanzio and Nancy Nichols-Pethick. Piece by Piece will be on display in the Marian University Art Gallery located in the Michael A. Evans Center for Health Sciences from August 20-October 5, 2018. An artists’ presentation and reception of the exhibit will be held on August 30, from 4-6 p.m. The exhibit and reception are generously funded by the Talbot Street Art Fair and are free and open to the public.

Fran Lattanzio uses past photographs (some dating back 30 years), from a variety of disparate subject matters and processes to create her collages. Her motivation for this series was to create visual connections based on compositional structure and use of space. Lattanzio has been professor of art at Indiana State University since 1975. She has participated in many solo, group, and juried exhibitions. Likewise, Lattanzio has been honored with several awards and grants including the Educational Excellence Award, from the College of Arts and Sciences at Indiana State University in 2006 and Indiana Arts Commission Individual Artist Grant from the Indiana Arts Commission in 2010-11.

Nancy Nichols-Pethick’s collages are inspired by the memories and landscape of her childhood home in Maine. She approaches her collages as visual poems speaking a special language that is perforce combinatory and metaphorical. Nichols-Pethick is an associate professor of painting at Indiana State University. Nichols-Pethick has been in a numerous exhibitions and has been honored with many awards for her artwork including the Award of Excellence for the 15th Annual National Juried Small Matters of Great Importance exhibition at the Edward Hopper House Art Center in Nyack, NY, and Best in Show for the 65th Annual Wabash Valley Juried Exhibition and the Swope Art Museum in Terre Haute, IN.

The Marian University Art Gallery (Evans Center) is located on the north end of the second floor of the Michael Evans Center for Health Sciences on the Marian University campus. Gallery hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays. Please contact the director of galleries Crystal Vicars-Pugh at cvicarspugh@marian.edu or 317.955.6665 for additional information.
