Canvas Allows Changes in Marian’s Adult Programs

Canvas, Marian University’s learning management system, is now used in all Marian’s Adult Programs classroom-based courses. Canvas provides a secure web space where faculty will post syllabi, eliminating the need for printing paper copies, as well as other class-related content such as videos, worksheets, and links to URLs and discussion boards.

More importantly, announcements assignment changes, and weather cancellations can now be forwarded directly to students via Canvas. Students can select the method that works best for them—text, e-mail, Twitter, Facebook, etc.

The use of Canvas in all classroom-based courses also made it possible to change the Marian’s Adult Programs attendance policy. Effective January 1, 2013, students who are unable to attend the first class meeting will not be administratively dropped from a course. Students will be responsible for reviewing material from the first class that will be posted on Canvas, giving them the opportunity to make up missed work and continue with the course. Students are still only allowed one absence in a five-week course that meets one time per week, and two in an eight-week course or a five-week course that meets twice a week.

Canvas has previously been used with our paralegal and RN to BSN courses with great success. Now all students in Marian’s Adult Programs can enjoy the benefits Canvas provides.
