Marian University students swept the student Addy awards at the 2015 American Advertising Awards. The show was held on February 20, 2015, at the historic Madame Walker Theatre in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana.
Two Marian University students entered the competition and both received an Addy, the only two awards at the student level this year. Jordan Barker, ’15 received a Gold Addy for her Safe Sitter logo design. Harrison Thee, ’15 received a Silver Addy for his print ad campaign for Mary Kay.
“This was the first time Marian University has entered the American Advertising Awards competition,” said marketing professor Lori Rumreich, who encouraged the students to enter. “To bring home the only two Addy’s in the student category this year is a testament to the ability of the students and confirmation of our strong, real-world curriculum in the Byrum School of Business.” The Indianapolis AAF sponsors the competition, which this year included 95 professional entries and 10 student entries representing three universities.
Both Thee and Barker have participated in the Byrum School’s award-winning National Student Advertising Campaign competition. Thee was instrumental in the university's first place win at the District 6 competition and national semi-finalist placement in 2014. Barker is leading the creative team for this year’s competition, to be held in April.
Rumreich added, "The American Advertising Awards is a great opportunity for the Indianapolis creative community to see what Marian University students have to offer. It's a great honor to be a part of this, and so much fun for my students to gain additional exposure to the top advertising and marketing leaders in the Indianapolis area."
