Magazine cover for Beyond The White Coat highlighting the “Research Article of the Year” case report on recurrent Amyand hernia managed with laparoscopic TAPP and appendectomy, with authors listed.Four Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine students and Michael Burchett, DO, have earned Beyond the White Coat’s Research Article of the Year award.

Austin Layton, OMS-III; Lily House, OMS-II; Madison Lather, OMS-IV; Bianca McAravey, OMS-II; and Dr. Burchett were recognized for their case report on the successful treatment of a rare Amyand hernia, a condition in which the appendix is found within an inguinal hernia sac. In this case, the condition was discovered during surgery to repair a recurrent hernia. The surgical team successfully treated both conditions in a single minimally invasive procedure, with no complications.

Their report, “Recurrent Amyand Hernia After Prior Open Repair Managed With Laparoscopic TAPP and Appendectomy,” highlights the team’s research and clinical scholarship.
